Renault 5 The Renault 5 was the first three-door vehicle ever produced by Renault. In January 1972 the car was presented to the public. The styling was very modern, the (motoring-) technique very familiar. The model R5L had either a 782cc 35hp engine or the 845cc 36hp engine, both known from the R4. The R5TL had a 965cc 42hp engine, known from the R8. Mid 1974 the %LS appeared on stage which had the 1289cc 64hp engine from the R12TS. Summer 1976 brought the R5GTL with the 1289cc engine, now delivering 44hp and very economical in this version. A R5 Automatic was available from 1978 on. For the fast boys and girls Renault designed in 1976 the Renault 5 Alpine with a 1397cc 93hp engine. The bog one came in 1980: the Renault 5 Turbo with 1397 injection turbo-engine with a street legal 160hp. The looks of the R5 changed with the years. A five doors model became available and the R5TL got the 1100cc engine, known from the R4GTL.
