Technical description Renault 16 TS 1968 COMBUSTION The two valves are being placed in an angle of 20 degrees, which is ideal for a narrow edged combustion chamber. Only the upper half of the wet cylinder liners is being flushed by cooling liquid. The lower part is tightly pressed into the aluminium case. The Solex 35 mm carburettor with manual operated choke is placed in an inlet manifold with two gates, warmed by cooling liquid. The engine produces a very humble amount of horsepower: the 1470 cc engine with a compression ratio of 8,5:1 delivers 62,5 DIN hp. It’s torque is 10,75 mkg at 2800 revs, maximum revving: 5700/minute. Those figures clearly demonstrate that this engine has not been “exploited” to its utmost. Much more, it demonstrates the goal of Renault to produce a very reliable engine with fair acceleration and maximum speed instead of an engine that delivers extraordinary results in terms of speed and acceleration.
