Technical description Renault 16 TS 1968 FRONT SUSPENSION The Renault 16 has an independent suspension system by means of four torsion bars with telescopic torsion dampers. The car is designed to be driven with radial tires which are known to produce an unpleasant noise when driven at low speeds on bad surfaces. To prevent this from happening the suspension of the upper and lower suspension arm has been ‘softened’ in a way that doesn’t influence the steering and road holding capacities in a bad way. The arms are mounted in rubber bushes that vary in thickness and rigidity. The rack and pinion type steering system is at the same height as the upper suspension arms (which are firmly mounted to prevent the steering being disturbed by the flexible suspension. Only the front wheels do have disc brakes.
